How do I care for my jewel orchid?

KARMA Jewels are easy to care for and originate from the rain forests of southern Asia. The jewel orchid will tell you where her needs are and you do this by keeping an eye on growth and color. Put her in a nice spot in the room so you can see her clearly. When she is first in her new environment, give her time to get used to it.

Growth |

The KARMA Jewels are slow growers, be patient, you can enjoy them for years. Because they are originally soil-growers, they grow horizontally and branch across the width of the plant, rather than growing upward.

The best location |

KARMA Jewels are shade-loving soil growers. This means that these plants cannot have direct sunlight. So put your jewel in a low-light location. Not next to a warm radiator. After placing your KARMA Jewel, keep a close eye on its growth and color. This is important. That way you can tell if the location and amount of light is right. If the plant gets long thinner stems then it is in too dark a place. If the leaves of the leaf get lighter than right they are in too much light.

Watering |

KARMA Jewels depends on the time of year, location but also how big your jewel is. The great thing about this plant is that you can quickly tell when it needs water. The important thing is not to give her too much water. This is essential for long-term enjoyment. If the top layer of soil is dry then she likes some water, but if it still feels damp wait a little longer.

Yellow leaf |

Once your plant gets yellow leaves, it could be that the ambient temperature is too low. This could be because she is in a draft, or near an open window. She is a plant that, like us, likes a normal room temperature.

Brown spots |

Does your gem get scorched leaves which gives brown spots, then she is in too direct sunlight. This generally happens more often in the summer when the plant is near a window.

Weak leaves |

As soon as your little plant lets her leaves hang down limply then she has too little water. Don’t throw her away! You can easily make her shine again by giving a little water. You do need to build this up slowly because the soil may have become bone dry. The soil needs time to retain water.
